EPA TO HOLD ANACOSTIA RIVER FIELD TRIP, WORKSHOP
On Oct. 5-6, EPA will provide river monitoring and restoration training for local citizens and government agencies on the shores of the Anacostia River, one of the nation’s most polluted. ATTN: PHOTO DESKS: A photogenic field trip will be held Oct. 5, from 10:45 to 1 p.m., including Hickey Run creek in the National Arboretum and in the Anacostia River watershed. On the shores of the Anacostia, local residents will get hands-on training in measuring dissolved oxygen, nutrients and bacteria in rivers and streams. With this information, residents can help regulatory agencies locate water polluters, build local support for water pollution control and re-establish control over their water resources and communities. The field trip and workshop will be held at the Old Capitol Pumphouse, First St. and Potomac Ave., S.E., Washington, D.C. For more information, call Tim Jones at 202-260-6059.
