PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s mid-Atlantic region presented the Lorraine Urbiet Communicator of the Year Award to Donna M. Heron, a resident of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
Heron, an EPA press officer, was honored as an accomplished communicator, including efforts to reach non-English speaking audiences.
“Donna is passionate about communicating and has made significant contributions to the region’s outreach and education efforts in the areas of asthma in the Hispanic and Chinese communities, and the health hazards associated with nail salons among Vietnamese workers,” said Communications Coordinator Bonnie Turner-Lomax, who announced the award winner.
Heron was also recognized as editor for The Protector, an employee newspaper, which focuses on the good work of the region’s employees in protecting the environment.
This award is given to a regional employee in memory of Lorraine Urbiet (1947-1993), who was an outstanding communicator with boundless energy, enthusiasm, creativity and caring.
Heron is a former award-winning newspaper reporter who worked for Montgomery Newspapers and the Pottstown Mercury prior to joining EPA in 1999.
