PHILADELPHIA - On Wednesday, August 30, at 6:00 p.m., the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) will conduct a public meeting in the Throop Borough Civic Center, located at 500 Sanderson Street in Throop, PA, to discuss the next steps in the cleanup of the Marjol Battery and Equipment Company Site.
Agency representatives from EPA and PADEP will discuss the consent order which was signed with Gould Electronics, and became effective July 13.
EPA will also discuss the specific activities associated with the first step of the order which requires Gould Electronics to conduct a mining investigation to further evaluate potential mine hazards at the site.
This additional investigation was recommended by the EPA National Ombudsman in his May 2004 review of the final remedy for the Marjol site.
The public is invited to listen, ask questions and express concerns.
