EPA Region 7 Administrator John B. Askew said, "Wetlands and stream restoration partnership projects are some of the best tools for improving water quality in our watersheds. Partnerships are key ingredients to the success of these restoration projects."

The Five Star Restoration Program, administered by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, is a partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Association of Counties, the Wildlife Habitat Council and corporate partners Southern Company and Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

In 2008, Five Star Restoration Program grants totaled $872,333. The grants were awarded to 35 community-based wetland and streamside habitat restoration projects. The grantees leveraged an additional $2 million in local project support.

For more information about the grants, please contact Jason Daniels, EPA Region 7 environmental scientist, at [email protected], or by calling (913) 551-7443 or (800) 223-0425.
