Warwick, R.I. Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Recognized for Outstanding Service

(Boston, Mass. – Jan. 27, 2011) – Joel Burke, Superintendent of the Warwick, R.I. Wastewater Treatment Plant was recently honored with the "2010 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Award" by EPA.

EPA’s New England office formally acknowledged Mr. Burke’s contributions during the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference at the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel on January 26th. Mr. Burke’s nomination was highly recommended by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.

The EPA award program recognizes municipal personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable public service operating wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England. Mr. Burke has been with the Warwick Sewer Authority since 1985 and has been serving as the Superintendent of the wastewater treatment plant for well over 20 years. He has been a dedicated professional protecting the water quality and public health of Rhode Island’s citizens. During the past year, Mr. Burke, along with many others in Warwick and the State of Rhode Island, was instrumental in overseeing the recovery of the entire treatment plant from the devastating spring flood of 2010.

"I am proud to acknowledge Mr. Burke’s outstanding contributions to help protect public health and Rhode Island’s waterways for so many years.”
