EPA PROPOSES NEW SITES ON THE SUPERFUND NATIONAL PRIORITIES LIST
EPA is proposing nine new sites to the National Priorities List (NPL) and adding six. The NPL informs the public of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites that warrant further investigation to determine if they pose risks to human health and the environment. Sites that are placed on the NPL are eligible for long-term “remedial action” financed under the Superfund Trust Fund. The proposed sites are: Cam-Or Inc., Westville, Ind.; GE-Housatonic River, Pittsfield, Mass.; Cornell Dubilier Electronics Inc., South Plainfield, N.J.; LCP Chemicals Inc., Linden, N.J.; Puchack Well Field, Pennsauken Township, N.J.; Zschiegner Refining, Howell Township, N.J.; Fulton Avenue, North Hempstead, N.Y.; Peter Cooper, Gowanda, N.Y.; and American Bemberg, Elizabethton, Tenn. The six added sites are: Del Amo, Los Angeles, Calif.; Central Chemical, Hagerstown, Md.; Ordnance Products, Inc., Cecil County, Md.; Grand Street Mercury, Hoboken, N.J.; Sprague Road Ground Water Plume, Odesa, Texas; and Oeser Co., Bellingham, Wash. The Federal Register Notice is expected to be Monday, Sept. 22. Copies of the updated NPL or site descriptions, contact the RCRA/Superfund Hotline at 1-800-424-9346 or 703-412-9810. The information also can be accessed through the Superfund home page under the Site Information Section at https://www.epa.gov/Superfund.
