Media Advisory: Sears to join EPA'S Responsible Appliance Disposal Partnership at Chicago launch event

CHICAGO (Oct. 17, 2007)
WHAT: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Sears are holding a launch event tomorrow in Chicago to celebrate Sears joining EPA's voluntary Responsible Appliance Disposal partnership (RAD). Sears is the first retailer in the country to join the partnership. The partnership promotes environmentally responsible disposal of household appliances and will significantly reduce emissions of ozone depleting substances and greenhouse gases. The new partnership between EPA and Sears is expected to properly dispose of more than 1 million residential refrigerators and freezers per year. The emissions savings resulting from Sears' efforts will be equivalent to taking approximately 650,000 cars off the road for a year.
