PHILADELPHIA - For the eleventh year in a row, the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency joins other exhibitors at Philadelphia Flower Show which runs from Sunday, March 3 through March 10. Even though the doors at the convention center don’t open to the splendor of the show for a few more days, curious gardeners can have a preview online by visiting EPA’s new web site called “Green Landscaping.”
“I hope visitors check out the new EPA web site, which is designed for all types of gardeners. Green Landscaping is a way of designing and maintaining beautiful yards, gardens, and even larger landscapes, so as to reduce environmental harm, save time and money, and leave the gardener with healthier places,” said Donald S. Welsh, EPA mid-Atlantic regional administrator.
For anyone interested in seeing an actual green landscape demonstration, visitors can stop at the EPA exhibit at the flower show, which is inspired by a Japanese tea garden with a pond, fountain, and a visually delightful mixture of native plants.
The website includes information on environmentally friendly gardening, its benefits and how to get started. The website is an expanded on-line version of The Gardener's Guide to a Healthier Environment, one of EPA’s most popular handouts at past flower shows. Photographs of natural landscaping used in residential settings are also featured.
Visit https://www.epa.gov/region3/ https://www.epa.gov/https://www.epa.gov/reg3esd1/garden.today and stop by and see our exhibit in Exhibit Hall A next week. And after the show, when gardeners are getting ready to roll up their sleeves and dig in the earth again, the website will still be online to provide tips on how to make yards into environmentally friendly gardens.
