Maryland gets $1.3 million EPA grant for safe drinking water

PHILADELPHIA -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $1,340,200 to Maryland to protect drinking water supplies. Maryland will contribute a $446,733 matching share.
The grant goes to the Maryland Department of Environment’s public water system supervision program to:
- Help implement drinking water regulations that promote the consumers’ right-to-know about the quality of their drinking water;
Increase protection against microbial and other contaminants;
Update their computer database system; and
Provide technical assistance to small, financially challenged public water systems.
The federal money is from EPA’s public water system supervision grant and will help the public water systems comply with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act. The fund helps ensure the nation’s drinking water supplies remain safe and are properly operated and maintained. Maryland receives a grant every year.
