MISSOURI AIRCRAFT REPAIR COMPANY SENTENCED
Sabreliner Corp., of Clayton, Mo., was sentenced to pay a $125,000 fine by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri in St. Louis on Oct., 8 for allegedly violating the Rivers and Harbors Act. The defendant discharged paint stripping waste containing methylene chloride from a holding tank at its facility located at the Perryville Municipal Airport on July 25, 1993. On that day, local and state law enforcement personnel were evacuating the airport area because heavy flooding had broken a levee on the Mississippi River. During the evacuation, law enforcement officers noted a foul-smelling green liquid on the ground and ordered that the tank’s valve be closed. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, EPA’s National Enforcement Investigations Center and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
