STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Environmental Protection Agency has donated four computers to the Spring-Benner-Walker Joint Authority in Bellefonte, Pa., and to Granville Township for use at its sewage treatment plant.

Regional Administrator Donald S. Welsh made the presentations today to representatives from the two sewage plants after delivering the keynote address at the Water Conservation Congress in State College.

“We are very proud that we can provide computers to help communities in their environmental efforts,” Welsh said. “Granville Township and the Spring-Benner-Walker Joint Authority will be better able to monitor its water quality and better able to fulfill the requirements of the Clean Water Act.”

The computers, formerly used by EPA employees, are the latest of more than 900 computers that EPA’s mid-Atlantic region has donated to worthy organizations since 1996. Organizations receiving computers include:

• 10 computers to Luzerne Community College for instructional labs.
• 10 computers to Wilkes-Barre Area vo-tech school for environmental-related
education programs for students in grades 9-12.
• 10 computers to Columbia Montour Area Vo-Tech School, for environmental-related
education programs for grades 9-12 and evening adult education programs.
• 15 computers to Mountain Council of Governments to help 14 municipalities
coordinate efforts to address common environmental concerns.

EPA has donated used computers directly to municipalities, schools and non-profit organizations in accordance with President Clinton’s Executive Order 12999. This executive order was signed by the President on April 17, 1996.
