U.S. EPA opens public comment period, proposes air permit for the Cabrillo Deepwater Port

SAN FRANCISCO - Yesterday the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency opened the public comment period on a proposed air permit for the Cabrillo Deepwater Port. Air emissions from operations of Cabrillo Port are subject to federal air pollution permitting laws for new emission sources under the federal Deepwater Port Act.

The project is a proposed importation terminal for liquefied natural gas. The terminal would consist of a floating storage and re-gasification facility located approximately 14 miles off the coast of mainland Ventura County, Calif.

The 60-day public comment period for the proposed air emission permit opened yesterday. Interested parties may submit comments on the permit now through July 3, 2006. A public hearing has been scheduled for June 5 from 1 pm to 4 pm, and 6 pm to 9 pm at the Oxnard Performing Arts & Convention Center in Oxnard, Calif.

Recently, the EPA also announced the availability of a proposed wastewater discharge permit for Cabrillo Port. The 60-day comment period for the wastewater permit opened on April 21 and closes on June 20. A public hearing to comment on the wastewater permit is scheduled for May 23 at 1 pm, also at the Oxnard Performing Arts & Convention Center.
