U.S. EPA AWARDS SUPERFUND GRANT TO FORT ORD GROUP

(San Francisco) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S.EPA) today announced that a Technical Assistance Grant has been awarded to the Fort Ord Toxics Project, Carmel, Calif. The $50,000 award was granted through the federal Superfund program and will allow the group to review cleanup activities being conducted at the Fort Ord Superfund site near Monterey, Calif.
"This grant will give the people living in the community an opportunity to participate more fully in the decision-making process," said Keith Takata, U.S. EPA's regional Superfund director. "It should result in better decisions and greater public confidence in the actions taken to protect public health and the environment."
The grant will be matched by $15,690 worth of resources from the Fort Ord Toxics Project and will cover a three-year period. The grant will allow the Fort Ord Toxics Project to hire a technical advisor to assist it in reviewing investigation and cleanup documents the Fort Ord Superfund Site. The Fort Ord Toxics Project will then present the information to the community.
