EPA Administrator Christie Whitman on Monday, July 1, will visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park with U.S. Senator Bill Frist (R-Tennessee). During the visit Whitman will outline new region-specific human health and environmental benefits that will result from implementation of the President=s Clear Skies proposal. These benefits, which will be achieved more quickly and with more certainty than under current law, have now been identified specifically by regions throughout the country.
Whitman will announce the new data at an afternoon press conference following a day spent on an educational tour where she will be briefed on air quality issues and resource threats to the nation’s most visited national park. Reporters who wish to participate in the entire tour should join Whitman and Frist at 9:40 a.m. at the Sugarlands Visitor Center. The press conference will commence at 12:15 p.m. at Clingman’s Dome.
