(Philadelphia, August 30, 2008) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has ordered Linvilla Orchards, 137 W. Knowlton Road, Media, PA, to take protective actions at a nearby property it owns after an inspector discovered alleged asbestos violations at the site.

In an order issued late yesterday afternoon by EPA’s mid-Atlantic region in Philadelphia, the orchard owners were directed to post warning signs and take protective actions after an EPA inspector found asbestos exposed on materials inside and outside a building that formerly housed the Habbersett Sausage Co. at 43 W. Knowlton Road. The building is undergoing renovation.

The National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants for Asbestos requires, among other things, that owners and operators of renovation and demolition projects involving asbestos follow certain procedures designed to prevent asbestos emissions.

The public does not have access to the affected building. The EPA actions are intended to protect Linvilla workers who have access to the building.

A copy of the order is available upon request.
