MONDAY: EPA to Recognize Center for Transportation and the Environment and Delta Airlines for Grant Project Completion

ATLANTA – On Monday, May 13, 2013, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will recognize the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) and Delta Airlines for the successful completion of their Diesel Emissions Reduction Act Grant project.

As the 2011 National Clean Diesel Campaign and the Southeast Diesel Collaborative competitive grant recipient, CTE partnered with Delta Airlines to complete 24 diesel to electric repowers of belt loaders and 11 diesel to electric repowers of container loaders. The loaders will be used as ground support equipment for Delta in the new green international concourse at Hartsfield-Jackson International airport. As a result of this transition from diesel to electric, an estimated 18.5 tons of particulate matter, 95.8 tons of carbon monoxide, and 11,503 tons of CO2 will be reduced over the lifetime of the repowered equipment.
