EPA TO RECOGNIZE RECIPIENTS OF PRESIDENTIAL GREEN
CHEMISTRY CHALLENGE ON JUNE 29 IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
EPA will announce the recipients of its 1998 Green Chemistry Challenge Awards program during an awards ceremony to be held June 29 between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., at the National Academy of Sciences, 2101 Constitution Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C. EPA’s Green Chemistry Challenge was announced in March 1995 by President Clinton and Vice President Gore as part of the Administration's Reinventing Environmental Regulations initiative to promote pollution prevention and industrial ecology. The program recognizes and promotes innovative chemical technologies that accomplish pollution prevention through source reduction. EPA, working together with partners from industry, academia, the states, and other agencies of the federal government, solicited nominations for the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards last August through December. More than 100 nominations were reviewed by an independent panel of technical experts selected by the American Chemical Society. Representatives from the chemical industry, trade associations, academia, and scientific organizations will participate in the ceremony.
