Groundbreaking to take place December 7th

MONTEREY PARK, Calif.  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the City of Monterey Park, Greenfields Development and Ezralow Retail Properties will break ground on a Superfund clean-up and the development of a new shopping center at the site of the former Operating Industries Inc. landfill. The shopping center will be built on the 45 acre north parcel of the landfill after the developer has cleaned up contamination on the property.

The Operating Industries landfill is a 190 acre Superfund hazardous waste site.  The landfill operated from 1948 to 1984 and accepted industrial and municipal wastes.  Two years of nearly non-stop construction have now nearly contained the contamination.  Thursday's groundbreaking will celebrate completion of the north parcel clean-up and progress on the south parcel across the highway.
