EPA ENERGY EFFICIENCY CONFERENCE TO ANNOUNCE NEW PROGRAMS
TO REDUCE COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL ENERGY USE
TO REDUCE COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL ENERGY USE
On Monday, March 24, the EPA will announce at a conference entitled “Smart Business Opportunities” new energy efficiency partnerships that could save business and consumers money over the next ten years, while reducing global warming and other air pollution. Building on EPA's long-standing Green Lights and ENERGY STAR Labeling Programs, the partnerships, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), will encompass home lighting technologies, office equipment and an initiative to encourage state and local purchasing officials to include energy efficiency requirements in their purchasing contracts. The ENERGY STAR Labeling Program helps consumers and businesses find energy-efficient products, such as residential heating and cooling systems, office equipment and new homes. The conference will take place Monday, Mar. 24 - Tuesday, Mar. 25 at the Georgetown University Conference Center, 3800 Reservoir Rd., N.W., Washington, D.C. Sponsored by EPA’s Atmospheric Pollution Prevention Division (APPD), the conference will also enable industry and other participants to learn about the benefits of joining APPD voluntary partnership programs, such as participating in nationwide marketing campaigns, receiving public recognition for environmental responsibility, and reducing costs of energy use. The conference keynote speaker will be Mary Nichols, EPA Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation. Christine Ervin, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for the Dept. of Energy, will describe how her agency is working with the retail and commercial markets to be more energy-efficienct. APPD will also present Partner of the Year awards to various industry officials exemplifying outstanding environmental leadership. For further information on the conference, contact Betsy Agle at 202-233-9046.
