EPA ADMINISTRATOR BROWNER TO ANNOUNCE
FIRST-EVER TOXIC EMISSIONS DATA ON SEVEN MAJOR INDUSTRIES
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Carol M. Browner will announce the first-ever reporting of toxic emissions discharged into the environment from seven industrial sectors, including mining and electric utilities, on Thursday, May 11, at a press briefing in Washington D.C. This announcement marks the first reporting of toxic emissions since the Clinton-Gore Administration included these sectors in a major expansion of EPA’s Toxic Release Inventory as part of its commitment to increase the public’s right to know about toxic pollution in local communities. The full Toxic Release Inventory on chemical wastes and emissions released nationally will also be made public in addition to the reporting on the seven new sectors.
