TEN SITES ADDED TO NPL; EIGHT OTHERS PROPOSED
EPA is adding ten sites to the National Priorities List (NPL) and proposing to add eight others. The primary purpose of the NPL is to guide EPA in determining which Superfund waste sites warrant further investigation. Currently there are a total of 55 proposed and 1226 final sites on the NPL. The eight proposed sites are Ouachit Nevada Wood Treater, Reader, Ark.; Alaric Area Ground Water Plume, Tampa, Fla.; Callway & Son Drum Service, Lake Alfred, Fla.; Landia Chemical Company, Lakeland, Fla.; Old Roosevelt Field Contaminated Ground Water Area, Garden City, N.Y.; Big John Salvage-Hoult Road, Fairmont, W. Va.; St. Juliens Creek Annex (U.S. Navy), Chesapeake, Va.; and Naval Weapons (U.S. Navy) Station, Yorktown-Cheatham Annex, Williamsburg, Va. The added sites are Trans Circuit, Inc., Lake Park, Fla.; Marion Pressure Treating, Marion, La.; Jackson Steel, Mineola/North Hempstead, N.Y.; Lawrence Aviation Industries, Inc., Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.; Peter Cooper Corporation (Markhams), Dayton, N.Y.; Old Wilmington Road Ground Water Contamination, Sadsburyville, Pa.; Scorpio Recycling, Inc., Candeleria Ward, Puerto Rico; Centredale Manor Restoration Project, North Providence, R.I.; Macalloy Corporation, North Charleston, S.C.; and Jacobs Smelter, Stockton, Utah. Public comments will be accepted for 60 days. The Federal Register notice is expected to be published Feb. 4. Further information about these sites and the Superfund program will be available at:
