The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is today announcing that it has awarded, under the Agency's new Environmental Justice Small Grants Program, 61 grants to financially assist community-based/grassroots organizations, non- profit organizations and tribal governments to address environmental justice issues and concerns.
The Agency received 250 applications from parties interested in obtaining a portion of the $500,000 set aside for this program. The grant recipients were awarded up to $10,000 each and were required to provide a minimum five percent match.
EPA has budgeted $1 million for the FY 1995 Small Grants Program. A request for applications (RFA), expected to be published in the Federal Register in October, will describe the program and indicate when applications should be received for consideration.
(Attached is a list of the grant recipients. For additional information on the grants contact Gwendolyn Brown at 202-260-1384 or the EPA regional offices at the numbers listed on the attachments.)
