BOSTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is hosting a public information meeting on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Tewksbury Town Hall, Tewksbury, MA to update the community on the current status of the Sutton Brook Disposal Area site (former Rocco=s Landfill) and future cleanup activities.
At the meeting, EPA will discuss the agreement recently reached with 24 parties responsible for contamination of the site. The agreement calls for the parties to perform and pay for all costs of extensive studies to determine the nature and extent of contamination at the site.
EPA will explain the studies, which include:
- investigation of site soils, sediment, surface water, and groundwater;
- characterization of the risks posed to public health and the environment by the site; and
- development of cleanup alternatives for all areas that exceed risk-based cleanup levels.
