PHILADELPHIA - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $4,941 grant to support a unique workshop that educates elementary school teachers in Washington, Fayette and Greene counties in Pennsylvania about environmental concepts.
The grant was awarded to Pennsylvania’s Intermediate Unit 1 in Coal Center, Pa. which supports education projects for school districts in Washington, Fayette and Greene counties. The workshop is called the “Contain, Maintain and Connect Outdoor Environmental Workshop” where about 20 teachers learn about basic environmental concepts and how they can use them to identify local environmental problems and provide applicable lessons in their classroom.
Since 1992, EPA has provided nearly $3 million annually to local organizations and schools nationwide. These grants fund education programs in nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and governmental agencies supporting a wide range of environmental issues for citizens of all ages.
