EPA Offers Informational Flyers on Possible Environmental and Health Issues for Residents Returning to Hurricane Impacted Areas

(10/14/05) EPA is posting on the Agency's Hurricane Katrina Web site informational flyers on potential environmental and health issues in impacted areas. These flyers are being distributed in affected communities to residents returning home as part of EPA's continuing outreach to help the Gulf Coast region recover.
The flyers highlight possible hazardous situations residents may encounter during cleanup activities such as:
· Leaking natural gas lines,
· Carbon monoxide poisoning from using un-vented fuel-burning equipment indoors,
· Toxic fumes from household cleaners and disinfectants,
· Airborne asbestos and lead dust,
· Hazardous waste,
· Mold,
· Drinking water, and
· Well water.
