EPA ANNOUNCES THE AVAILABILITY OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE RECORD FOR THE VICKSBURG CHEMICAL COMPANY REMOVAL SITE, VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI

The United States Environmental Protection Agency announced today that the Administrative Record for the Vicksburg Chemical Company Removal Site in Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi is available for public review. The Administrative Record file includes documents that form the basis for the selection of the removal action. Documents in the record include, but not limited to, preliminary assessment, inspection reports, test results, and the Action Memorandum. All interested persons are encouraged to review and comment on the documents. The documents will be available for public review during normal business hours at the following locations: Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library 700 Veto Street Vicksburg, MS 39180 Attn: Jennifer Smith U.S. EPA Records Center - Region 4 61 Forsyth Street, SW Atlanta, GA 30303-3104 Attn: Debbie Jourdan EPA will accept comments regarding the Administrative Record during the public comment period which begins on April 7, 2003 and ends on May 7, 2003. Comments should be addressed to Kevin Misenheimer, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, U.S. EPA Region 4, ERRB, 11th Floor, 61 Forsyth Street, S.W., Atlanta, GA 30303-3104. At the end of the 30-day comment period, a written response to all pertinent comments will be prepared in a responsiveness summary and placed in the file. The Vicksburg Chemical Company Site is located at 4280 Rifle Range Road in Vicksburg. The Site is comprised of approximately 650 acres divided into two separate and distinct operations known as the North Plant and the South Plant. The site is the location of a former chemical and fertilizer production facility. The North Plant produced potassium nitrate (fertilizer), liquid chlorine and liquid dinitrogen tetraoxide, an additive for rocket fuel. The South Plant produced chlorinated pesticides, herbicides and other agricultural products.
