EPA REGIONAL ADMINISTRATOR HONORS LOS ANGELES AREA ENVIRONMENTAL HEROES ON EVE OF EARTH DAY

SAN FRANCISCO -- On the eve of the 30th anniversary of Earth Day, the U.S. EPA's regional administrator, Felicia Marcus, will present awards to ten Los Angeles area individuals, businesses and organizations for their unique contributions toward environmental protection.
The ten Los Angeles area Award winners are among 46 recipients selected from more than 160 nominees this year in California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii. The award winners will be available after the presentation for interviews.
The EPA Western Region Earth Day Awards acknowledge outstanding achievements on behalf of the environment.

Visuals: The Open Charter School is the site of an urban reforestation project and one of the Earth Day 2000 award winners. A life-lab garden, lawns and over 130 trees have been planted in place of heat-absorbing asphalt. A cistern will be placed beneath the campus to capture rainwater and reuse it for irrigation.
Directions: From the 405 freeway, take the Manchester exit and head west on Manchester. Turn right onto Osage. Then turn right onto West 77th Street. Once on the campus, signs will direct you to the ceremony.
