EPA Deputy Administrator Hansen to Join Mayor Ungaro in Youngstown, Ohio to Discuss Brownfields Redevelopment and Impact of Clean Water on Nation's Economy
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Deputy Administrator Fred Hansen will join Mayor Patrick Ungaro on the Mahoning River in Youngstown, Ohio at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 21. Deputy Administrator Hansen and Mayor Ungaro will tour a redeveloped brownfield -- EXAL, Inc.-- along the Mahoning River. Following the tour, Hansen will discuss Youngstown's success in cleaning up and redeveloping its brownfields, and a report on clean water and the nation's economy.
The report, "Liquid Assets: A Summertime Perspective on the Importance of Clean Water to the Nation's Economy," demonstrates that clean water is a vital commodity that provides a stimulus for local economies. The report outlines the impact of clean water on regional economies in areas surrounding the Great Lakes and other water bodies across the nation. The report also identifies five key sectors of the U.S. economy that rely on clean water to promote sales and profits, create local jobs and boost local economies.
Hansen will discuss the importance of the "Liquid Assets" report as well as the Clinton Administration's commitment to ensuring that clean water continues to keep communities healthy and thriving.
