Des Moines Ground Water Workshop on Water Well Economics to Feature EPA Experts, Others from 10 States

(Kansas City, Kan., June 16, 2006) – Des Moines will be the focus of a two-day workshop on the technology and economics of operating high-yield water wells, drawing participants from Iowa and surrounding Midwestern states. The workshop will be hosted by the American Ground Water Trust.
Ground water experts from New Hampshire to Oregon, including EPA Region 7 and Iowa Department of Natural Resources staff, will give presentations to utility managers, well contractors, water engineers, and regulatory officials about well design, construction, and operation & maintenance.
What: Managing Ground Water Assets & Water Well Performance: The Economic Basis for System Operation and Maintenance Decisions
When: Tuesday, June 20 and Wednesday, June 21
Where: Sheraton West Des Moines, 1800 50th Street
“Water wells represent a critical supply infrastructure asset for utilities, irrigators, and industrial users,” said Andrew Stone, hydrogeologist with the American Ground Water Trust. “Inefficient wells, resulting from inadequate design, construction or maintenance, result in high energy costs and inhibit effective management of ground water resources.”
The American Ground Water Trust is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to promoting awareness about the economic and environmental importance of ground water.
