(Boston, Mass. - Feb. 20, 2013) - Andrew Fish, an employee of the Vermont Dept. of Environmental Conservation (VT DEC), is being honored with a "2012 Regional State Wastewater Operator Training Provider Excellence Award" by EPA. At VT DEC, Mr. Fish is a Laboratory Evaluation and Training Specialist, a Wastewater Operator Certification Officer, and an Operator Training Specialist.
Mr. Fish was nominated by the Green Mountain Water Environment Association (GMWEA) and supported by numerous wastewater professionals in the state of Vermont. The EPA award program recognizes personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable operator training and professional certification assistance to wastewater treatment operators throughout New England. Mr. Fish has done an outstanding job providing technical assistance and training to wastewater treatment operators throughout the state for many years. In addition, and just as important, Mr. Fish has been instrumental in the GMWEA's participation in World Water Monitoring Day, championing environmental educational outreach to grade school students and educators at all levels. Mr. Fish has trained thousands of laboratory technicians, treatment operators, environmental professionals, teachers and students, young and old alike.
“The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are essential to keeping our environment healthy by protecting water quality. I am proud to give them the credit they deserve,” said Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.
EPA’s New England office acknowledged Mr. Fish for his exceptional work during the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference in Boston on January 30th. Mr. Fish will also be acknowledged at the May 2013 Green Mountain Water Environment Association annual spring meeting in Killington, Vermont.
