(11/9/05) The gasoline deposit control program, established in July 1996 to ensure U.S. gasoline supplies contain detergent-like additives to reduce tailpipe emissions, has been amended to improve compliance and maintain the environmental benefits of the program. The minor revisions include clarification of maximum concentration levels of fuel deposit control additives and changes to reporting requirements. As a result of this program, vehicle emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides have been reduced by more than 595,000 tons annually.
