Contact Information: For more information contact the Office of External Affairs at (214) 665-2200.
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, along with local officials, have established a drop off station for household hazardous wastes for residents of Terrebonne and LaFourche Parishes.
The household hazardous waste drop off location is:
LaFourche Parish Sheriff's Office
Range Facility
LA 182, approximately 1/2 mile southwest of HWY 90
Raceland, La.
HHW signs are visible.
The drop off site is open seven days a week, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The site is currently scheduled to accept household hazardous materials until Oct. 30.
Materials that may be dropped include electronics, batteries, computer hardware, paint, cleaning solvents and lawn and garden products. Containers should be clearly marked, and leaking containers should be put into plastic bags to prevent further spills of materials.
Items that are not appropriate for drop off at this site include: animal manure and carcasses, human waste and other biological items, needles and spoiled food. EPA has cautionary tips about household hazardous chemicals for families returning to hurricane-damaged homes, even for a short time. Keep children and pets away from leaking or spilled household chemicals. It's not safe to combine household chemicals from leaking or damaged containers or to burn them. Please, do not dump the chemicals down the drain, storm sewer or toilet. Mark containers and set them aside until they can be properly disposed thru debris programs that are being established. Leave damaged or unlabeled chemical containers undisturbed, if possible.
