U.S. EPA HOLDS ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE TELECONFERENCE

 (San Francisco)-- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(U.S. EPA) will broadcast a national interagency public meeting
on environmental justice.  The purpose of the meeting is to
present the federal agencies environmental recommendations on the
strategies.

     The meeting will be broadcast Friday, January 20, by
satellite from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at San Francisco State University,
Jack Adams Hall.  Those interested in viewing the meeting should
register with Ryan Brooks at PRC Environmental Management Inc. at
(415) 222-8261. The meeting will be broadcast to satellite
locations nationwide.

     The meeting gives the public an opportunity to hear how
federal agencies plan to address environmental justice concerns.
The agencies are responding to an order signed by President
Clinton in February 1994 which requires federal agencies to
develop environmental justice strategies.  The order calls for
the agencies to identify and address federal actions that may
have a disproportionately high and negative impact on human
health or the environment in minority and low-income populations.

     The U.S. EPA chairs a work group established to provide
federal agencies guidance in developing the environmental justice
strategies.  The meeting is not intended to be an open discussion
of site-specific or region-specific issues.
