EPA names Houghton-Hancock Wastewater Treatment plant among best-operated

CHICAGO (Aug. 15, 2006) - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 named the Houghton-Hancock Wastewater Treatment plant among the best-operated in the Great Lakes region for 2006. The plant serves 14,000 people in and near Houghton and Hancock and discharges into Portage Lake. It is among seven plants to receive regional Operations and Maintenance Excellence Awards for 2006. EPA Region 5 covers Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
EPA will present an award to the Portage Lake Water and Sewage Authority that runs the plant at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Houghton City Hall, 603 Sheldon Ave.
