U.S. EPA to hold public meetings on recent Hayden and Winkleman air and soil sampling results
(1/8/08 San Francisco, Calif.) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold public meetings on January 9 and 10 to share results from recent air and soil samples that were taken in Hayden and Winkleman, Ariz.
The EPA collected air and soil samples in February 2006 from 99 yards in Hayden and 30 yards in Winkelman after the EPA and ADEQ discovered elevated levels of arsenic, lead and copper in previous sampling. The results from the most recent sampling will help identify potential community risks and determine next steps.
“The EPA is interested in hearing the concerns that area residents have about the air and soil in Hayden and Winkleman,” said Keith Takata, the EPA’s Superfund Division director for the Pacific Southwest region. “During our community meetings, experts will discuss soil and air contamination and next steps.”
The agency will discuss sampling results followed by an opportunity for questions and answers.
