Robinson Township Municipal Authority receives a EPA grant

PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $470,500 grant to the Robinson Township municipal authority in Allegheny County, Pa. to upgrade its water system.

Funding will be used towards replacing an undersized 16-inch water transmission main with a 24- or 30-inch main. The new main will provide capacity to meet the required fire protection flow rate and allow the Groveton water treatment plant to operate at full capacity with room for expansion.

“The safety of more than 90,000 people will be enhanced with the new water transmission main that will bring additional fire fighting capacity to the area,” said Donald S. Welsh, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

The project will provide increased public water system capacity to sections of Robinson Township and neighboring North Fayette and Findlay Townships to accommodate planned developments.

The municipal authority will also use about $2.9 million in additional funding from capital project funds and long-term debt financing to help pay for the project.
