WASTE HAULER PLEADS GUILTY
On Aug. 18, Stephen Grossman of Los Angeles, Calif., former president of Arizona Hazardous Waste Inc. (AHW), pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona to one count of illegally storing hazardous wastes without a permit in violation of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Grossman admitted to the unpermitted storage of one 300-gallon container and one 55-gallon drum of waste toluene and xylene at the AHW’s North American Resources facility in Tucson, Ariz. When sentenced, Grossman faces a maximum of up to five years imprisonment and/or fines of $50,000 per day of violation up to a maximum of $250,000. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division.
