EPA Awards Bronze Medals to Eight Delaware County Residents

PHILADELPHIA -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded bronze medals for distinguished service to eight employees who live in Delaware County.

Linda Baric of Sharon Hill was honored for her role as part of the GreenLease Move Team which planned, designed and implemented the moving of EPA’s mid-Atlantic regional headquarters last year. Baric, a budget analyst, has worked for 25 years at the EPA.

Alan Cimorelli of Havertown was recognized for his contributions to the safe cleanup of extremely hazardous site soils at the Drake superfund site. Cimorelli, a lead meteorologist with the Air Protection Division, has worked for the EPA for 24 years.

Joseph Donovan is an attorney with the office of regional counsel. A resident of Drexel Hill, he was honored for his efforts in preventing accidental oil spills. Donovan has worked for the EPA for 22 years.

Daniel T. Gallo, Jr. of Brookhaven was honored for his superior work as lead (Pb) enforcement coordinator with the Waste and Chemicals Management Division. He has worked for the EPA for 10 years.

Donna Mastro of Concord Township, and Walter Wilkie of Yeadon were awarded bronze medals for their efforts in obtaining a nationally significant Clean Air Act settlement that included an asthma screening and treatment program for school-age children in the Chester, Pa. Community directly impacted by air violations. Mastro, an attorney with the Office of Regional Counsel, has worked with EPA for three years. Wilkie, an acting branch chief with the Air Protection Division, has worked for EPA for 10 years.

Rose Nino of Upper Darby was recognized for her part in developing EPA’s enforcement strategy to assure compliance for more than 100,000 underground storage tanks in the mid-Atlantic region. Nino, an environmental protection specialist with the Waste and Chemicals Management Division, has worked for the EPA for 25 years.

Randy Sturgeon of Springfield, Delaware County, was honored for developing and implementing a cleanup strategy for a residential lead site near the Abex superfund site. Sturgeon, a remedial project manager with the EPA’s Hazardous Site Clean-up Division, has worked for EPA for 10 years.

"These employees deserve applause for their hard work. Thanks to them, the mid-Atlantic region is a cleaner, safer place to live," said W. Michael McCabe, EPA’s mid-Atlantic regional administrator.
