Robin Woods 202-564-7841/[email protected]

EPA Administrator Christie Whitman on Wednesday will speak to meteorologists from around the country about the important role they can play in bringing environmental information to their audience. Whitman’s address is part of the “Eyes on the Environment” workshop being presented to weather casters as part of the American Meteorological Society’s 31st Conference on Broadcast Meteorology.
This training opportunity is designed to enhance weather casters’ understanding of watersheds, the natural and man-made forces that impact them, and how the watersheds, in turn, affect human, animal and plant life. The workshop will provide information on watersheds and demonstrate to weather casters the how's and why's of bringing watershed information to their viewers. The emphasis will be on enhancing the knowledge base of weather casters and to provide information about how weather casts can help bridge the gap that exists between weather and the environment.

In the afternoon, Whitman will tour Keck Lab at the College of William and Mary. Whitman will kayak on Lake Matoaka before visiting students working on environmental projects at the lab.
