U.S. EPA ADMINISTRATOR BROWNER TO JOIN U.S. REPRESENTATIVE SAM GEJDENSON AT EAST LYME HIGH SCHOOL TO DISCUSS CONNECTICUT COMMUNITIES’ RIGHT-TO-KNOW ABOUT TOXIC POLLUTANTS
MEDIA ADVISORY
U.S. EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner will join U.S. Representative Sam Gejdenson and students at East Lyme High School on Monday, September 8 at 12:00 p.m. Browner will discuss the Clinton Administration’s efforts to expand Community Right-to-Know to provide citizens with more information about pollution in their communities. Browner will also participate in a live demonstration of an EPA on-line Internet program, the “Toxics Release Inventory System,” designed to allow Americans access to a database of companies in their communities which report emissions of toxic pollutants.
The Clinton Administration believes that putting environmental and public health information into the hands of the American people is one of the most effective ways to reduce local pollution and prevent it from occurring in the future. Since 1993, the Clinton Administration has strengthened and expanded Community Right to Know to provide communities with new access to more information about chemicals released into their air and water. The Toxics Release Inventory -- an annual database of chemicals released in local communities and reported by industrial facilities nationwide -- is the centerpiece of Community Right-to-Know.
WHO: U.S. EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner

Students from East Lyme High School and students from Montville, New London and Waterford High Schools will participate via Distance Learning technology (closed circuit television).
