WHITMAN LAUNCHES NATIONAL PROGRAM PROMOTING GREEN TRANSPORTATION

To promote National Transportation Week and The Great American Green Transportation Festival, EPA Administrator Christie Whitman along with Mary Peters the Federal Highway Administrator, tomorrow, will honor employers who have voluntarily joined the Commuter Choice Leadership Initiative by offering commuter benefits to employees that meet the national standard of excellence.

After the ceremony, reporters are invited to join the Administrator biking to a road rally at Tour de Sol, The Great American Green Transportation Festival at The National Mall Capitol Reflecting Pool at 3rd Street N.W. Reporters are invited to accompany the Administrator to the road rally. Whitman is expected to reach the Festival at 1:15p.m.

Richard White, Washington Area Transit Authority
Mary Peters, Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration
Warren Leon, Executive Director, Northeast Sustainable Energy
Association and organizer of Tour de Sol.

WHAT: Award presentation to Commuter Choice Leadership initiative employers who include senior executives from over 50 Fortune 500 companies and small businesses.
              • Followed by a bike road rally to Tour del Sol event on the Mall
              • Participate in Tour De Sol event

WHEN: Tuesday, May 14, 11:30 a.m.
              NOTE: Whitman’s participation at the Tour De Sol event on the Mall is expected to begin at 1:15 p.m.

WHERE: Room 1153, ICC Building (EPA East), 1201 Constitution Ave. N.W. (Entrance to building near corner of Constitution Ave. and 12th Street). A clean transportation vehicle will be parked outside the entrance. Please note that this facility does not have parking available – Limited off street parking only.

DIRECTIONS: By Metro: Take the Orange/Blue Line to Federal Triangle Metro Station. Proceed up the escalator. Proceed back to 12th Street, walk west (towards Mall). Turn right on Constitution Avenue, Entrance to ICC Building will be on right. Look for the sign to the press conference.
