(Dallas, Texas – May 2, 2007) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently awarded $26,493 to the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. The funds will be used to reduce exposure to elevated levels of indoor radon gas by providing education, outreach and free radon testing to tribal members, community members, and schools. As part of their education efforts, the tribe intends to develop a radon Web page on the tribe’s environmental department Web site, and provide free information on the health risks of radon exposure, actions to take to reduce exposure, and mitigation techniques.
