THREE IN WASHINGTON STATE INDICTED FOR HAZARDOUS WASTE DUMPING
Brett Simpson, owner of TDS Northwest Inc., a farm equipment manufacturing company in Ellensburg, Wash.; Matt Preston, the foreman; and the TDS company were indicted on July 30, in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington in Spokane on charges of illegally transporting and disposing of hazardous waste in violation of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. The defendants are accused of dumping drums of waste oils and solvents in a pit on rural property that Simpson owned near the town of Kittitas, Wash. If convicted, Simpson and Preston face maximum sentences of up to five years imprisonment and/or fines of up to $50,000 per day of violation. If convicted, the TDS company faces a maximum penalty of up to $250,000. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division and EPA’s National Enforcement Investigations Center.
