There has been some misconception about stories that appeared today in several national newspapers. The tests for aerosolization of anthrax spores that were performed by the Environmental Protection Agency in the office of Majority Leader Tom Daschle in the Hart Senate Office Building were performed before the suite was fumigated with chlorine dioxide. The stories correctly gave the dates of the test as the second week of November, but, because the stories are running after the suite was gassed, there has been some confusion in secondary reporting by other news media that make it appear the tests were done after the fumigation.
EPA has not yet released any of the results of the testing that has been done since the chlorine dioxide gas was used in the early morning of Dec. 1, 2001. Those test results may be available later in the week.
