EPA HOLDS MEDIA AVAILABILITY ON DIESEL REGULATIONS

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a media availability on the agency's proposal for cleaner-emitting heavy duty trucks and buses and cleaner-burning diesel fuel at 9:00 a.m. on June 27 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Los Angeles. Margo Oge, director of the EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, will outline the new rules and answer questions from the media. The session will precede a 10:00 a.m. public hearing on the proposed rules.

From Hollywood, take the 101 FRWY south to the 110 FRWY
south. Exit from the 110 FRWY at 6th St. Travel 2 blocks
to Hope St. Make a right onto Hope St. Travel 2 blocks
down to 7th St. The Hyatt Regency will be on the right
hand of the street.
From Orange County,take the 405 FRWY north to the 110
north. Exit from the 110 at 9th St. Turn right from the
offramp. Travel 3 blocks to Hope St. Make a left onto
Hope St. Travel 2 blocks to 7th St. The Hyatt Regency is
on the northwest corner of Hope St.
The EPA has proposed more stringent emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles that would reduce smog-causing emissions from trucks and buses by 95 percent beyond current levels. Soot emissions would also be reduced by 95 percent below current levels. The EPA plans to finalize the standards by the end of the year. The standards would take effect in 2006 - 2007.
