NEWS CONFERENCE ON LONG-TERM PLAN TO DEAL WITH BAY DREDGE MUD

WHY: To announce release of the Long Term Management Strategy Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report on three options for dredged material disposal in the San Francisco Bay Area over the next 50 years. More than 60 organizations, including goverment, fishing and navigation interests, environmental groups, and the general public, helped create the plan. The public will be invited to comment on the draft document. After the news conference, news media are invited to tour the dredge boat Essayons.

BOAT TOUR: At 11:30 a.m., a launch will depart the Ferry Building's Pier 1/2 to take news media to the Corps of Engineers dredge boat Essayons, which will be dredging near Alcatraz. The tour will take about one hour, with an optional additional hour for any who wish to stay on board for the dredge's voyage to Richmond Harbor, and return.
