Winners were nominated by EPA for accomplishments that go beyond compliance with environmental regulations, through Project XL, the Common Sense Initiative, Climate Wise, Design for the Environment, Green Chemistry, and other EPA voluntary stewardship programs designed to encourage innovations that may lead to better protection for the environment.
