EPA TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING IN MIAMI, FLORIDA TO DISCUSS CRUISE SHIP DISCHARGES

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, September 12, 2000 in Miami, Florida regarding cruise ship discharges. This information hearing is being held to gather information on wastewater, solid waste and hazardous waste discharges from cruise ships, their environmental impacts, existing control measures and potential improvements in waste management practices and technology. This assessment is in response to a petition from the Bluewater Network and 53 citizen environmental organizations. This effort is jointly supported by the Coast Guard and other Federal agencies. The hearings will not cover air emissions or tourism impacts from cruise ships.
