U.S. EPA determines that the Wyle site qualifies for the Superfund List

     Results based on a year long investigation

LOS ANGELES - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has determined that the Wyle Laboratories facility in Norco, Calif. is eligible for the National Priorities List under the Superfund law.  However, the agency has no current plans to list the site because the state of California is overseeing site work under an enforceable agreement with Wyle Laboratories.    
                                   
    "The public can read the EPA's report on Wyle Labs by visiting the three sites in Norco and Corona where the report will be available, or by contacting an agency representative," said Keith Takata, Superfund division director of the EPA.

        The EPA will attend a state-sponsored community meeting on August 16, 2004 to discuss the results of the study.  

    The agency made this decision based on a year long study of the site which included soil, sediment and groundwater sampling.
     
    The EPA initiated the Wyle site investigation last year in response to concerns raised by residents.  In October 2003, the California Department of Toxic Substances Control signed a Consent Order with Wyle to investigate and clean up contamination at the site.

    The Wyle site occupies 429 acres in Riverside County, Calif.  Wyle Labs,  a commercial testing company, performs physical testing of ordnance, rocket motors, electronics and other items.
