U.S. EPA ADMINISTRATOR BROWNER TO ANNOUNCE 400TH CLEANUP OF SUPERFUND TOXIC WASTE SITE IN GIRARD TOWNSHIP (ERIE COUNTY), PA.

EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner will join Erie Mayor Joyce Savocchio and Erie County Executive Judy Lynch at the Lord-Shope Landfill in Girard Township, Pa., on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 1:15 p.m. to announce the 400th cleanup of a Superfund toxic waste site. Administrator Browner will also announce that EPA has exceeded its 1996 goal for completion of cleanups in communities across the nation, and set an overall record pace for cleaning up toxic waste dumps -- by completing more cleanups in the past three and half years than were completed in the previous 12 years of the Superfund program. Administrator Browner will also discuss EPA's successes in making the Superfund program faster, fairer and more efficient.
